It seems that LG has gotten the break it has been waiting for. While we will never completely know if it’s because Samsung isn’t in the race just yet, the numbers do speak for themselves. Ever since it opened the doors last Thursday, LG has reported that pre-orders for the LG G6 has topped 40,000. That’s an average of 10,000 pre-orders per day. If 100% of that turns into actual sales by the end of this week, then the G6 is definitely off to a good start to be the Android king of smartphones this quarter.
It’s honestly not hard to see why the LG G6 would be so positively received, even if you say it’s LG’s home court anyway. The Full Vision display delivers on its promise of giving a larger screen in the same or even smaller body, even if you disregard the 18:9 aspect ratio, which you definitely shouldn’t. The waterproofing will most definitely be appreciated but the removable battery will also probably be missed.
At 899,800 KRW, roughly $795, the LG G6 is no light matter. Especially when you consider that the G6 doesn’t have the latest Snapdragon 835 processor or that it doesn’t have wireless charging or dual SIM support in Korea. At least 40,000 people don’t seem to mind.
The LG G6 goes on sale on March 10, which could mean that global launch shouldn’t be far behind. Then we’ll see if that same interest in the smartphone will be mirrored in other markets, especially in the US. That market will have the privilege of gaining wireless charging at the expense of Quad DAC, which, LG believes, isn’t a big deal for that particular market anyway.
