Johannesburg – Zimbabwean activist Dr Patson Dzamara was attacked by armed men bearing a firearm, and knives at an upmarket hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa late last evening.

Dzamara had spent the last few days in Durban, Kwazulu Natal, ‘letting off some steam’ before his scheduled trip to the USA.

He returned to Joburg this evening.

Initially Dzamara had decided to spend the night in his hotel room, as he is suffering from a severe flu.

However, a friend decided to take him out for dinner.

It was on return that he was attacked, just meters away from the hotel (name supplied).

The armed man pointed a loaded gun, which they proceeded to press against his temple.

The men robbed Dzamara of cash, cellular phone gadgets, and a brand new iPad. They also stole his companions cellphones, before fleeing into the dark.

Although shaken, Dzamara is stable and unharmed.
