UNITED KINGDOM : President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu PF party has expelled former Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, three days after he was sacked by the Zimbabwean leader for alleged disloyalty, deceitfulness and other issues.
Zanu PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo told journalists in Harare that the ruling party’s Politburo resolved at a meeting in Harare to expel Mnangagwa and take disciplinary measures against his lieutenants, including State Security Minister Kembo Mohadi and several top officials.
Khaya Moyo said the Politburo decision on Mnangagwa was made following his expulsion from the party on Monday by President Robert Mugabe.
Mnangagwa is currently in South Africa after leaving Zimbabwe, claiming that his life is in danger.
President Mugabe is expected to appoint his wife as one of his deputies at the party’s Extra Ordinary Congress set for December this year.
Zanu PF provinces, youth members and people affiliated to the Women’s League, which she leads, want her so take over the position left vacant by Mnangagwa.
Effort to get comment from Mnangagwa were fruitless as he was not reachable on his mobile phone in South Africa.
