War veterans say there is need to reconstitute the disbanded district coordinating committees (DCCs) which should be led by a war veteran.

The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association Harare province held a council meeting with some members of the association’s national executive in Harare today.

The council meeting brings together 28 district chairmen in the province and 44 members of the national war veterans association.

In his address at the meeting, the association’s national spokesperson Cde Douglas Mahiya said the party had been infiltrated by corrupt individuals of the G40 cabal and selfish elements and war veterans should remain vigilant and avoid another such inflitration in future.

Cde Mahiya said the stage of taking the revolution forward should see war veterans taking strategic positions in the party and work at every step with the masses as was the case in the liberation struggle.

He also spoke of the need to reconstitute the DCCs which should be led by a war veteran, and chosen by war veterans.

The DCCs were disbanded by the Zanu PF politburo in 2012 after realising they were sowing divisions in the party. Allegations were raised then that powerful party members were allegedly manipulating the DCCs, causing unnecessary divisions and tension. zbc
