Zimbabwe businessman allegedly murdered his wife by suffocating her using a towel before committing suicide at their Pumula homestead on Tuesday (yesterday) this week.

A dark cloud is hanging over Pumula South suburb in Bulawayo after a couple was found dead in their bedroom following an alleged domestic altercation.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango confirmed receiving a report that one Thandiwe Sibanda, 33, was found dead on the couple’s bed with a towel stuffed in her mouth while Mulungisi Moyo, 40, was found hanging at the roof truss with a suicide note written by Moyo at a coffee table.

She said the couple’s 17-year-old son witnessed his parents shoving each other but decided not to tell anyone only to return and find the two’s lifeless bodies prompting him to alert neighbors of the mishap.

Inspector Simango said preliminary investigations show that Moyo might have overpowered his victim and suffocated her before writing the suicide note and hanged himself.

She urged people to always look for professional advice whenever faced with misunderstandings saying cases of domestic violence are on the rise.

Some of the friends of the late Moyo described him as a quiet person who never liked to argue describing the incident as shocking.

The bodies of the deceased couple have been taken to United Bulawayo Hospital for post-mortem.
