At last five people have been arrested after a 13-month-old baby was found and reunited with his father in Brackendowns, Alberton.

Five suspects – four Zimbabwean nationals and a South African – including the family’s domestic worker, were arrested in connection with the kidnapping.

The toddler was kidnapped on Wednesday and subsequently, the suspects demanded a ransom of R6-million for the safe return of the child.

Two suspects were arrested during the cash drop-off.

Further investigations led police to Windmill Park, where the domestic worker and another suspect were apprehended in the early hours of Saturday.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Lungelo Dlamini says the baby was found unharmed.

“He was found in a healthy condition and taken to a hospital for a check-up,” he said. “As I am speaking now, he is together with the parents.”

The suspects will appear at the Alberton Magistrate’s Court on Monday
