The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has accredited 104 foreign observers with the European Union observation mission expected to dispatch about 140 observers by the time of harmonised election set for the 30th of this month.
The decision by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to allow foreign observers to come and observe the 2018 harmonised elections has received overwhelming response with the EU election observation mission and other western member states dispatching over 140 observers to monitor the July 30 polls.
EU election observation mission Deputy Chief Mark Stevens told ZBC News that they are impressed by the prevailing election mood since their arrival in the country in June.
Latest statistics released by ZEC show that 104 foreign observers have jetted in the country and accredited to observe the forthcoming harmonised election set for the end of this month.
At a time the election gear has gone into full throttle with observers from regional and international blocs on the ground the biggest losers appear to be some civic society organisations whose regime change agenda has since been made irrelevant thus their financiers have seen it fit to withdraw funding.
256 local observers comprising members from the human rights commission, Zimbabwe Public Cooperative Society, Zimbabwe Federation of Trade Unions and others have also been accredited while 14 foreign journalists and 150 local scribes have so far been accredited by ZEC.
