Movement for Democratic Change Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has dropped another bombshell by telling the South African Broadcasting Corporation that he received a call from the United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres congratulating him on his victory in the just ended elections.

Chamisa said that he was congratulated by the United Nations, the British government and by the United States.

“We are engaging the international community to continue to support the people of Zimbabwe. Most of them have congratulated us for the victory. I have had calls from the secretary general of the United Nations, the British government, from the United States; they all have said well done,” Chamisa said.

Chamisa garnered 44.3% of the vote while his main rival who was declared the winner garnered 50.8% of the vote.

Mnangagwa’s victory in the July 30 polls was challenged by the MDC Alliance, but in a unanimous decision, the coiuntry’s constitutional court approved his victory, an AFP report said.

Mnangagwa was then officially sworn in as president of Zimbabwe on Sunday and has pledged to “protect and promote the rights of Zimbabweans” at an inauguration ceremony attended by thousands of supporters at a stadium in Harare.
