Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the incident, describing it as “cruel and uncalled for”.

Police said that Ngwenya was able to identify her attacker before she died.

Vundla was expected to appear in court on October 16.

Witchcraft accusations were not new in Zimbabwe. 2012 there was a report that man who had just been released from prison was killed by his relatives, who accused him of causing his father’s death through witchcraft.

Police confirmed the murder, saying two suspects were arrested in connection with the case.

Timothy Mugobo, 34, had been just released from prison when he visited his father’s home but was killed by his younger brother Vusa Ndlovu, 27 and his nephew, Njabulo Tshuma, 30, the report said
