Harare- Legendary musician Oliver Mtukudzi passed on Wednesday afternoon at Avenues clinic in Harare.
Though no official confirmation the veteran musician had been ill over the past few months. Social media had been awash with the sad news as an outpouring tribute swamped social media platforms.
Tuku (66) as he was affectionately known by his legion of fans had 67 albums to his belt with his last album Hanya’Ga (concern) coming out last year.
Norton legislator Temba Mliswa confirmed on his twitter handle that Mtukudzi had breathed his last.
“I have it on good authority that Dr. Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi is no more. We have lost an icon and my heartfelt condolences to Daisy and family” wrote Mliswa
The vibrant legislator said he was writing to the President to confer the music guru with a hero’s status.
“I am writing to the President to apply for National Hero status for his national contribution the music, arts and culture industry” he said.
