The football star Emiliano Sala body was recovered from the English Channel last week after a new search was launched following a fundraising campaign.

The inquest opened at Bournemouth Coroner’s Court today at 1.30pm.

The inquest into the death of Cardiff City footballer Emiliano Sala has heard he died of “head and trunk injuries”.

The Argentine footballer was travelling from Nantes to Cardiff in a light aircraft when it went missing on January 21.

Brendan Allen, acting senior coroner for Dorset, adjourned proceedings until November 6 for a pre-inquest review, after hearing an Air Accidents Investigation Branch inquiry into the tragedy could take between six months and a year.

The plane was being flown by pilot David Ibbotson, whose body has yet to be found.

The aircraft lost contact with air traffic control north of Guernsey.
