Police make arrest in Babes Wodumo assault case

The suspect in the Babes Wodumo assault case has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

Police spokesman Brigadier Vish Naidoo said, “The suspect in the Babes Wodumo assault case has been arrested and is currently in police custody”, and is expected to appear in court soon.

The Gqom singer is currently receiving treatment at home.

Her official spokesperson, Sakhile Mhlonishwa Langa, said Babes is “very emotional but stable” and is seeing a psychologist to help her cope.

Babes Wodumo featured on the Black Panther soundtrack and has often collaborated with Mampintsha , including on one of her most popular songs, Wololo.

National police spokesman Brig Vish Naiddoo told the Report Focus said all cases of domestic abuse were taken seriously.

“We are treating this case just as would any other similar case. The question is whether you the media treat this case like any other. We are consistent,” he said.


Violence against women is a major problem in South Africa.

A 2016 study by Statistics SA found that 1 in 5 women report that they have experienced violence at the hands of a partner.
