Harare-MDC Alliance deputy chairman Job Sikhala appeared in court and was remanded in custody until the 24th of July by a Bikita magistrate.

Sikhala who is facing charges of subverting a constitutionally elected government was transferred to Bikita yesterday after a false start to his trial at Harare’s Rotten Row Magistrates Court.

Bikita Magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa dismissed an application for refusal of remand by the defence team led by Alec Muchadehama. The application was dismissed on the basis that it lacked merit.

The team of lawyers who include Muchadehama, Harrison Nkomo, Douglas Mwonzora, Jeremiah Bhamu, Freddy Masarirevhu and Nyasha Makuzwa had to make an urgent application with the Masvingo High Court as Sikhala’s offence was a third schedule one.

Appearing for the state were prosecutors Chiedza Muhwandavaka, Elson Chavarria and Takunda Chikwati.

Meanwhile, MDC youth assembly Gift Ostallos Siziba who is facing charges of incitement to commit public violence has been granted $1000 bail.
