JOHANNESBURG – Police have confirmed that they are investigating a case of murder after the shooting of former footballer Mark Batchelor.
Cops said he was murdered by two suspected motorbike assassins who opened fire through his window before fleeing.
Photos shared on social media showed the car windscreen riddled with bullet holes.
Police spokesperson, Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini said: “Police are investigating a murder case after a former soccer player, Mark Bachelor was attacked by two men driving a motorbike in Olivedale outside his house.
“He was shot several times and died inside his vehicle.”
Batchelor, who played for some of the country’s top clubs, is being mourned by his former colleagues.
Steve Lekoelea, who played with Batchelor at Pirates, also acknowledged Batchelor’s commitment as a player.
“He was a player who was always looking forward to the next training session. He wanted to win, and losing was not part of his vocabulary,” Lekoelea said.
“He always wanted to perfect his game and he was a team player. I’m devastated by his passing away.”
