Harare-Zimbabwe’s defence minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri has called the coronavirus pandemic a “punishment” to the US and Europe for imposing sanctions against Zimbabwe.

“Coronavirus is the work of god punishing countries who imposed sanctions on us. They are now staying indoors. Their economies are screaming just like they did to our economy,” said Muchinguri

Muchinguri who is also ruling Zanu PF party chairperson said this whilst addressing a rally in Chinhoyi north of Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe’s ruling party members were slapped with travel bans over human rights abuses.

Muchinguri remarks have received widespread condemnation from some quarters of the country with many describing the remarks as “sour”.

“Instead of joining hands in the fight against the disease she utters sour words that’s in humane” said social commentator Givemore Makusha

Coronavirus has infected more than 150,000 people worldwide and killed almost 6,000 since it was first detected in China last December.
