Staff ReporterThe United Kingdom Embassy in Zimbabwe has dismissed a letter circulating on social media claiming Zimbabwe president Emmerson Mnangagwa has been barred from attending the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
On Twitter, the Embassy said, “President Mnangagwa has been invited to attend the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey on Monday.”
In the letter it was suggested Foreign Affairs Minister Frederick Shava had written to request attendance for Mnangagwa. Such was then denied on the basis of travel restrictions.
Travel restrictions to the UK on Mnangagwa do not exist.
It is not clear whether Mnangagwa will attend the funeral.
