The third terrorist behind the London Bridge attacks has been named as a 22-year-old Italian-Moroccan amid claims British authorities were tipped off about the risk he posed.
Youssef Zaghba was born in Fez, Morocco to a Moroccan father and Italian mother, according to Italian media.
He was stopped at Bologna airport in 2016 apparently trying to travel to Syria and Italian authorities had tipped off Britain about his movements, Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera reports.
An Italian intelligence source said that Zaghba had since been acquitted of trying to go to Syria but was on a ‘persons at risk’ list.
It is said he was caught at the airport with a one-way ticket to Istanbul, carrying just a backpack, a passport and a mobile phone.
The Met Police have insisted he was not a ‘subject of interest’, but the claims in Italy will raise questions over how Zaghba managed to enter Britain before carrying out the attack.
Reports in Italy suggest the 22-year-old had got a ‘seasonal job’ in a London restaurant and continued to speak to his mother in Italy.
The other two attackers were named yesterday Pakistani-born Khuram Butt, who had appeared on a TV show called ‘The Jihadi Next Door’, and Moroccan-born Rachid Redouane
Scotland Yard said described Zaghba as ‘of east London’, suggesting he has been in the capital for some time.
Reports in Italy say he was born in Moroccan at a time when his parents lived in north Africa. They are now separated and his mother moved back to Italy with him and lives in the Bologna area.
The two other attackers – Khuram Shazad Butt, 27, and Rachid Redouane, 30 – were named yesterday.
