Lawyers of a woman who accuses Cristiano Ronaldo of raping her suffers post-traumatic stress and depression because of the alleged attack, conditions they argue would have made her legally incompetent to reach a non-disclosure agreement.
Kathryn Mayorga alleged the football superstar raped her in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2009. Ronaldo vehemently denied the accusations via Twitter, saying he has a “clear conscience” as he awaits results “of any and all investigations.”
The 34-year-old former model alleged the footballer dispatched a team of “fixers” to obstruct the criminal investigation and trick her into keeping quiet for $375,000 (£268,000).
Her attorney said a psychiatrist determined her psychological injuries made her “incompetent” to reach a non-disclosure settlement with the star’s representatives in 2010.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, he also said Ms Mayorga now suffers with depression and post-traumatic stress following the alleged incident.
Las Vegas police said earlier this week that it has reopened its investigation of a sexual assault complaint that Mayorga filed nine years ago.
Ms Mayorga filed a lawsuit last week in state court seeking to void the agreement she signed while accepting $375,000 to keep quiet about the alleged encounter
